A Tortoise one day met a Hare who made fun of her. "My, my, you move so slowly, you will never get far!"

Cierto día una Tortuga se encontró con una Liebre que se burlaba de ella. "Por Dios, te mueves tan despacio ¡que no llegarás lejos!".

The Tortoise, upset by the Hare's manner, said, "Let's have a race and see who is faster."

La Tortuga, disgustada con los modales de la Liebre, respondió: "Hagamos una carrera y veamos quién es más veloz".

The Hare laughed and said, "You must be joking! But all right, we'll see who reaches the other side of the hill first." Off he ran, leaving the Tortoise far behind.

La Liebre se rió y dijo: "¡Debes estar bromeando!Pero de acuerdo, veamos quién llega primero al otro lado de la colina". Salió disparando dejando muy atrás a la Tortuga.

After a while, the Hare stopped to wait for the Tortoise to come long. He waited and waited till he felt sleepy. "I might as well take a nap," he thought. "Even if she catches up with me, I can easily win the race." So he lay down under a shady tree and closed his eyes.

Al cabo de un rato, la Liebre se detuvo a esperar que apareciese la Tortuga. Esperó y esperó hasta que se quedó dormida. "Bien podría hacerme una siesta", pensó. "Aunque me alcance, podré ganar fácilmente la carrera". Así se echó a la sombra de un árbol y cerró los ojos.

The Tortoise passed the sleeping Hare, she walked on slowly but steadily. By the time the Hare woke up, the Tortoise was near the finishing line. He ran as fast as he could, but he could not catch up with the Tortoise.

La Tortuga pasó a la Liebre caminando lenta pero con firmeza. Cuando la Liebre se despertó, la Tortuga ya se encontraba cerca de la meta final. La Liebre corrió con todas sus fuerzas pero no pudo vencer a la Tortuga.
